He will detail productive Midwestern techniques and talk about weather, clothing you will need, optics and firearms. He also will answer your individual questions at the predator hunting table in the Tech Information Center.

Trophy Deer Contest Rules for 2012 Deer & Turkey Expo

Here are entry rules pertaining to trophy contest and non-contest whitetail deer trophies that will be brought for measuring and scoring to the 2012 Field & Stream Deer & Turkey Expo/OHIO in Columbus, formerly titled the Ohio Deer & Turkey Expo.

The 20th annual Expo will be held March 16-17-18 in the Bricker Building at the Ohio Expo Center (State Fairgrounds) in Columbus. More than 450 Ohio deer are expected. This has become one of the better trophy events in the country, in number of entries and size of antlers. All measuring and scoring is done by members of the Buckeye Big Bucks Club (BBBC).

Noting the expo name change, Glenn Helgeland, the Expo's long-time producer, explained that the four Midwestern deer and turkey expos his company produced have been purchased by Field & Stream and Outdoor Life magazines. The expos – in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois and Wisconsin –have been renamed the Field & Stream Deer & Turkey Expos, presented by Remington. "The Field & Stream Deer & Turkey Expo events are the largest and most comprehensive of their kind," said Jay Miller, FGI Brand Manager. "The events attract thousands of passionate hunters. We're very appreciative of the opportunity and we're excited to be part of these must-attend events for sportsmen."

Outdoor Life magazine will sponsor the seminar series at each expo.

The Deer & Turkey Expo/OHIO will continue to be operated by Helgeland's management team, a local work crew and the BBBC. The expo quality and content depth you have come to expect will continue.

The 2012 big buck contest rules and fees:

GENERAL

1) Trophies are accepted from noon Friday to 10 am Sunday. There is no advance entry; just bring your trophy to the show.

2) Go to the contest registration table. Entry is on the north side of the Bricker Building. Follow the signs. Your trophy will be more secure with this entry because it will not neeed to be carried through crowds.

3) No trophies released between noon and 3 pm Sunday. Scores are being checked. Filing is being checked. Winner notifications are being posted. There is no time for trophy release.

4) All entries must have been taken in Ohio hunting seasons.

TROPHY CONTEST ENTRIES

There are categories for whitetail deer typical and non-typical antlers, with classes for archery, firearms, crossbow and black powder.

1) Do not buy an admission ticket. However, everyone else with you MUST buy a general admission ticket.

2) Fee for the first entry is $20. With this, you get a weekend pass. Pre-scored additional entries are $7.50 each with written proof of official score or $20 each if the entry has not been officially scored or the person entering the trophy does not have proof of official score.

3) All entries will be hung on display boards as soon as they are scored.

4) All contest trophies must remain on display until release Sunday at 3:00 pm.

5) Early check-out – A) there will be a $10 early-checkout charge per trophy taken out before noon Sunday. B) No checkouts of any kind are allowed from noon to 3:00 pm Sunday. Early check-outs disrupt the measuring process and, in the middle of the day Sunday, disrupt the checking of entry lists to determine accuracy of filing, production of winner lists, and all other necessary wrap-up paperwork.

6) Award presentations begin at 4:00 pm Sunday.

Whitetail deer only. Typical antler and non-typical antler classes in firearms, archery, crossbow and black powder divisions; historical (2010 season and earlier) and current-year (2011 season) categories in firearms and archery divisions only. Black powder and crossbow entries are much fewer, so they are grouped together in one category regardless of year taken. Eight-, nine-, 10-, 11-, 12- and 13+-point categories in typical-antler categories.

Previous First Place Historical Category winners are not eligible for re-entry. First Place winners in Current Year Category at last year's show are eligible to be entered in the Historical Category this year. All previous first-place winners in other categories are not eligible for re-entry, but they are automatically invited to display on the "Board Of Honor". This keeps each year's contest fresh.

NON-CONTEST MEASURE-ONLY TROPHIES

1) Attendee must purchase a general admission ticket to the expo.

2) Measuring fee is $20. The same work must be done as with contest entries. This fee is returned if the trophy has not yet been measured when the attendee is ready to leave. There will be no weekend pass.

3) Trophy will be measured only after all trophy contest entries have been measured.

For details on the 2012 Field & Stream Deer & Turkey Expo / OHIO, go to the event's web-site -- www.deerinfo.com.
