2008 TROPHY DEER/BEAR/MOOSE CONTEST & DISPLAY

GENERAL ITEMS
  • No advance entry; just bring your trophy to the show.
  • Entries begin at Noon Friday, close at 10:00 a.m. Sunday.
  • Entry fee is $12 for the first trophy you enter; in return, you get a three-day pass ($18 value). For additional entries, its $6.00 if the trophy already has been officially measured, $12 if the trophy has not been officially measured. If the trophy already has been officially measured, it will not be measured again, so bring paperwork proof with you.
  • Antlers do NOT need to be mounted. They must have a solid skull plate; otherwise, they cannot be measured. This is not a beauty contest. Awards are given on antler score only.
  • Bear skulls must be clean.
CATEGORIES
  • Whitetail Deer
    a) Main Category -- Deer taken in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, South Dakota and North Dakota are eligible.
    b) Out-of-Region Category -- Deer taken from any other states and Canadian provinces are eligible for entry.
  • Black Bear -- Can be from anywhere in U.S. or Canada.
  • Moose -- Can be from Minnesota, Ontario, or anywhere the Canada moose sub-species exists
  • In whitetail deer competition, there are firearms and archery divisions, with typical-antler and non-typical-antler classes in each division. Both divisions have Historical Category (2006 season and earlier) and Current-Year Category (2007 season) classes. Muzzleloader whitetail deer kills are entered in the firearms division.

TROPHY RELEASE
  • No trophies will be released between Noon and 3:00 p.m. Sunday. That's paperwork crunch time as all entries and scores are checked and re-checked.
AWARDS
  • Award presentation begins at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, and entries must be present to win.
MEASURING / SCORING
  • Measuring and scoring is done by members of the Minnesota Official Measurers (MOM). There will be measurers available who are certified by the Pope & Young Club or Boone & Crockett Club.

OUTDOOR PHOTO CONTEST

GUIDELINES & COMPLETE RULES

  • The contest is open to amateur photographers.
  • There are five categories in the photo contest:
      1) Wildlife (North American only)
      2) Flora (North American only; wild plants only)
      3) Scenic
      4) People in the Outdoors
      5) Miscellaneous/Novelty
  • No ‘hero’ photos of game or fish taken; no photos of pets.
  • Entry fee is $5 for up to three photos, and $5 for every additional group of one to three photos.
  • You must purchase a show general admission ticket before you can enter the photo contest.
  • Bring your entries to the show office; no mail-in entries are accepted.
  • Entry deadline is 10:00 AM Sunday.
  • Black-and-white or color prints only.
  • Photos must be mounted on cardboard, but cannot include glass and do not need to be framed or matted.
  • Image size can be anywhere from 5”x7” minimum to 11”x14” maximum.
  • Your name, address and telephone number, including area code, and choice of contest category, must be on the back of each entry.
  • Judging will be at 11:00 AM Sunday.
  • There may be up to three awards per category. Participation ribbons for every entry.
  • Photos must remain on display until 3:00 PM Sunday. They will be available after that for pick-up in the display boards. After 3:00 PM each photo contest entrant can get in free to pick up his/her photos. Must have photo contest entry receipt. Admission before 3:00 PM -- must buy general admission ticket.
  • Photos not picked up will not be returned.
  • Awards will be mailed to all winners.

Door Prize Winners at NASP Archery Range

A lot of kids shot bows and arrows, many for the first time, at the NASP Free Instructional Archery Range at the Expo ... and some of them hit the jackpot. Their names were drawn to win a door prize. Some of those winners are shown here.

Members of the Straight River Archery Club of Owatonna operated the NASP Archery Range at the Expo. They did a great job. Thank you to all who worked. NASP is the National Archery in Schools Program.
